Young Dimitrov lost to Robert Kendrick in the first round of the qualifications of the Australian Open tournament 7-6(4) 3-6 6-3. Kendrick was Seed 17 of the qualifications and ATP rank 139, but his best ever ranking was in July last year, when he was #69.

Grigor Dimitrov will also play at the Qualies of the 2010 Honolulu Challenger with prize money $50 000. He is Seed 2 of the qualifications and will not play in the first round. His opponent in the second round will be the winner between the wild card entry Ikaika Jobe /USA/ and the 838 ranked Joel Lindner /Australia/.
